What is upnext?: upnext is a podcast player that helps you remember what you heard, without asking anything of you. You only listen. When an episode ends, upnext transcribes it and writes down the main points with the time each one was said, with no button to press. Then it brings them back as short questions a day later, three days later and a week later, until they stick.
How does the recall work?: It is spaced repetition for podcasts. When a point comes back, upnext asks you a question about it and you answer in one line. It tells you if you had it, partly had it, or missed it. A point you remembered comes back later and further apart; a point you missed comes back the next day. You can tap to hear the exact second of the episode again.
Which podcasts does it work with?: Any podcast with a public RSS feed, which is nearly all of them. Search the open podcast directory, follow a show, and its whole back catalog is playable. If you come from another podcast app, you can import your shows from its OPML export.
What does upnext cost?: Following shows, playback, saving moments and revisiting them are free and unlimited. The free plan includes 5 hours of new transcripts a month and a monthly allowance for the AI parts: takeaways, questions about an episode, and quiz questions. How is upnext different from Snipd, Readwise or a podcast summary tool?: Those tools are built around saving: you capture a highlight or get a summary, and some show your highlights to you again later. upnext is built around answering. When a point comes back it arrives as a question, you answer it in your own words, and it tells you if you had it, partly had it, or missed it. Being asked is what makes something stay, more than reading it a second time. upnext also does the capturing for you: there is nothing to tap while you listen.
Is there an iPhone or Android app?: upnext runs in the browser on a phone, a tablet and a computer, and you can add it to your home screen. There is no app in the App Store or on Google Play yet.
What happens to my data?: Your listening history, notes and saved moments are used only to run the player for you. upnext does not sell data, does not show ads, and does not use your data to train AI models. You can ask for your account and everything attached to it to be deleted.
